2023 | Lino-cut, cotten-linen
In the chaotic and uncertain years of the COVID-19 pandemic, I poured into the well of depth psychology, philosophy, and mythology to make some sense of it all. Individuals process collective upheaval in many ways. For me, when the outer world was crumbling, the only place to go was in. And what could be more inward than all of those cryptic stories told to us by us on a nightly basis? A Private Mythology chronicles significant dreams (and their symbols) I've had from the ages of 25 to 27 — a quarter-life period marked by spiritual searching. The linocut printed quilt and subsequent booklet of analysis were partly inspired by Carl Jung's The Red Book and Satya Doyle Byock's recent work on the Quarterlife period, ushering in a much needed depth psychology into the modern era. This project is an attempt to make space for and honor the imperfect, impractical, and irrational aspects of the psyche and the creative process.
